State loans for cannabis businesses

Friends, I don’t have the chutzpah to suggest that someone in the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department reads these Cannabis Musings, but I admit that the thought did cross my mind for a nanosecond when I read the news this morning that the state is going to provide small, low-interest loans to “small-scale cannabis businesses in an effort to provide economic opportunity to communities that were hit hard by past criminal enforcement of marijuana laws”, per an AP Report. Now, it’s not quite what I proposed in my missive a few weeks ago suggesting that states set up an SBA-style guaranteed loan program (link), but it sort of gets to the same end.

While things continue to futz along in Congress for both non-hemp cannabis (still nothing new - link) and hemp (yet another bill to get the FDA to regulate CBD in food and beverage - link), the industry continues to plow forward.
