When I worked on the early undersea submarine cable projects at the turn of the century, there was the fear that the fibre capacity would be excessive and be a white elephant. This turned out to be grossly wrong - the dark fibre was quickly lit as consumers lapped up the additional content on the additional bandwidth and more cables were launched. I wonder whether this cautious increase of data centre capacity will follow a similar trajectory of over-cautiousness.

Long awaited data centre development criteria launched
There is no limit to the number of applicants that will be accepted, but the total capacity allocated is expected be around 60MW. As at last year, there were more than 70 operational data centres in Singapore with a total available IT capacity of about 1,000MW, according to Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry.
