Private Equity and Search Funds - Flavor of the day

Search funds offer an innovative solution for business succession: young entrepreneurs, together with experienced investors, specifically seek out mid-sized companies to acquire and develop them over the long term. Unlike traditional private equity funds, search funds focus on personal, entrepreneurial succession rather than short-term resale. The model is gaining traction in Europe as more business owners look for successors due to age, and investors appreciate attractive returns as well as direct influence on business success. The market is responding positively, as search funds are seen as a sustainable alternative in succession processes and increasingly cooperate with private equity.

A search fund is, at its core, an investment in an individual; an individual who is usually experienced in a specific sector, tends to come from a C-suite role in that sector and wants to leverage that experience to raise investment, acquire and grow a business in their specialist sector.
