AI Act FAQs by EU Commission

The EU Commission has published an FAQ paper on the interpretation of the EU AI Act.  This is the first, more specific and detailed guidance on the interpretation of the AI Act that, at a high level, references many other resources and initiatives.

The FAQ document provides detailed guidance on the EU AI Act, outlining its objectives, phased implementation (2025–2027), and risk-based regulatory approach. It clarifies obligations for high-risk and general-purpose AI systems, prohibited practices (e.g., social scoring, emotion recognition in workplaces), and transparency requirements. The document addresses compliance procedures, documentation, and support measures for SMEs, as well as AI literacy and funding opportunities. It explains the roles of providers, deployers, and modifiers, and introduces regulatory sandboxes for innovation. The FAQ also covers future updates, open-source exemptions, and the General-Purpose AI Code of Practice. Check it out.

The Commission is currently preparing guidelines on the classification of high-risk AI systems, which should be published in February 2026.
