Cascade effect of SEC rule on private companies

While the SEC's proposal unveiled Monday targets all public companies and most discussion so far has been on the indirect focus on the energy industry because the agency essentially wants companies to disclose their energy footprint, the proposed Scope 3 emission rules presage a measurable effect on private companies if this rule goes forward as well, particularly private companies that serve the supply chain of a public (energy) company.

This may be a situation where companies not directly regulated by an agency rule may still want to weigh in on the ripple effects from this proposal.
