ICO publishes guidance for businesses collecting customer and visitor details for contact tracing

The ICO has published initial guidance for businesses, such as bars and restaurants, on collecting personal data from their patrons. Much to everyone's relief, pubs open again on Saturday and with that many businesses will need to collect contact details to assist with NHS Test and Trace (as per UK Government requirements for re-opening). This might be a minor inconvenience to a customer when buying a pint, however to the business this brings with it a whole host of data protection implications which they may never have considered previously.

The ICO says "it doesn't need to be complicated", however I'm not sure many organisations will share that sentiment!

It doesn’t need to be complicated - there’s no need for you to develop special apps or digital solutions – just choose the process that best suits your business.
